Automated Vertical Storage Solution That Stores 36 Tons in Just 10 Sq. Meter Footprint

A renowned Indian engineering company with over 70 years of manufacturing excellence was looking to modernize its internal storage systems. The company is widely recognized for its innovation in material testing equipment, precision machining, and industrial manufacturing solutions, serving global markets across automotive, aerospace, and heavy engineering sectors.
With a strong legacy of indigenous engineering innovation and exports to several international markets, the company operates advanced manufacturing facilities and continuously invests in technology that enhances operational efficiency.
Within its Mechanical Testing Equipment Manufacturing Division, the company handles a wide range of precision components, high-value assemblies, and heavy materials, requiring a storage system that is both space-efficient and inventory-controlled.
Problem Statement & Challenges Faced
The company was facing several operational challenges with its traditional storage systems:
- Limited Storage Space: Conventional shelving systems were occupying large floor areas while providing limited storage capacity.
- Inefficient Material Retrieval: Manual storage required operators to move across the warehouse to locate items, increasing time and reducing productivity.
- Inventory Management Challenges: Handling high-value and precision components demanded better control, traceability, and organized storage.
- Increasing Material Volume: As production scaled, the existing storage system could not efficiently accommodate the growing inventory.

The Solution
To overcome these challenges, the company implemented VStore Vertical Lift Storage Systems within their manufacturing division.Over time, due to the system’s performance and reliability, the customer expanded the installation to four VStore units.
Configurations
- Total Machines Installed: 4 VStores
- Machine Heights:
- 2 Units - 7 meters
- 2 Units - 10 meters
- Machine Width: 3040 x 865 mm
- Tray Capacity: 500 kg per tray
- Number of Trays: Up to 74 trays in the 10-meter systems
- First Installation: 2022
The VStore systems operate on the Goods-to-Person principle, automatically delivering trays containing required materials directly to the operator.
This significantly improved material handling efficiency while optimizing vertical warehouse space.
Benefits to the Customer
- 60% Space Savings:
- By utilizing vertical storage height, the company reduced storage footprint by more than 60% compared to traditional shelving systems.
- High-Density Storage:
- The system enabled storage of approximately 36 tonnes of material within just a 10 square meter footprint, maximizing warehouse utilization.
- Improved Operational Efficiency:
- The Goods-to-Person concept eliminated unnecessary operator movement, resulting in faster material retrieval and improved productivity.
- Better Inventory Control:
- The automated storage system provided better organization, visibility, and control over high-value components and materials.
- Proven Reliability & Scalability:
- Due to high uptime, reliability, and service support, the customer expanded from one VStore unit to four systems, demonstrating strong confidence in the solution.
